The reliefs and snowy landscapes of Finland are echoed in Fabien Barrero’s ‘Vuoristo’ (Finnish for mountain) low table, with rocky peaks made of volcanic stone that rise above the table like summits piercing through clouds below.
Created for this fall’s Paris Design Week, Vuoristo tells the story of its namesake landscape and the material it contains. “Asymmetric, it is the opposite of regularity as is the panorama of northern countries, the lines are pure and fresh.” says Barrero. “For reasons of sustainability and local development, we chose the Volvic stone. Extracted and shaped in France at Volvic in the Puy-de-Dome by a traditional craft. The manufacturing of these pieces of furniture is exclusively implemented by small and micro businesses. One way to highlight old knowledge, and the dialogue between designer and manufacturers.”
