Designer Satoshi Itasaka from Tokyo-based studio h220430 references the very moment of fertilisation of an ovum, and the weak electrical current that occurs when that happens, in The Birth chandelier.
The pendant light consists of a series of large inward facing light bulbs with attached power cables on the outside, which gives the light an organic aura.
Says Itasaka, “Today, the loss of life and humanitarian suffering, such as racism and terrorism, is considerable. Besides, it is now possible to make human beings artificially. Considering those, it seems that the value of ‘life’ is transforming, and therefore, it is time to re-think ‘life’.”
“I hope this work will provide opportunities to re-recognise the beauty of life.”
