Inspired by the local tradition and culture of food sharing, a young Israeli designer Galia Tammuz has created this understated tableware collection consisting of stainless steel cutlery, earthenware cups and wooden trays. Called ‘Baladi,’ the design of the series was based on, and achieved through, the relatively inexpensive and simple process of extrusion. As a result, each of the pieces features a distinctive, recurring pattern which has been moulded by the extrusion die. Without a doubt one of the most diligent design teams in Japan, Oki Sato’s much-acclaimed practice Nendo has recently unveiled their latest series of products which are to be launched as part of the 1% collection during the upcoming edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2012. Among them, this series of minimalist, stackable vases called ‘Block.’ Available in four different sizes, the subdued, understated vases will be produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces as ‘to give owners the chance to experience the joy of owning 1%.’ (more…)
The British born and Hong Kong based designer Michael Young realised these honeycomb glass vases for the Chinese manufacturer Tittot. The pieces will be on show at the Cat Street Gallery within an exhibition dedicated to Michael Young’s 20-year industrial design career from June 29th, 2011.
Inspired by the typical red clown nose the young Swiss designer and graduate from ECAL Tomas Kral realised this series of ceramic bins, closable through cork balls which are connected with coloured elastics.
The German designers Milia Seyppel and Laura Strasser designed the beautiful bowl ‘Milchmomente’ some years ago. It has been worth waiting because finally it is available in fine porcelain, manufactured in cooperation with the Porzellanmanufaktur Reichenbach in Thuringia.
Since 2002 the Czech designer Anna Torfs produces handmade glass objects. At this year’s maison & objects Anna displayed her colourful creations including some brand new designs.
Her thick-walled vases and bowls are characterised by a delicate interplay of different colours and transparencies. Cutting through the object like an anatomist, Anna reveals layer after layer to show how an object is built.
