The Coiling Collection by Raw Edges

Today an exhibition of the Israel born and London based design duo Raw Edges, founded by Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, will open at FAT Galerie in Paris. For the first time their most recent project The Coiling Collection will be showcased. The woollen furniture are made from wound-up felt strips, stiffened by coloured silicone. This new composite can be upholstery or supporting structure at the same time.

'FOLDED' by Raw Edges for Mutina

At this year’s CERSAIE in Bologna the Italian manfacturer Mutina presented this new series of bathroom tiles by the Isreal design duo Raw Edges. The designer’s idea was to reproduce the effect of folded paper on ceramics – the visual reference is the traditional ceramic patterns which were common in the apartments in Tel Aviv in the Fifties and Sixties. Raw Edges recreate them simply by using “folded” lines.

'TWB' armchair by Raw Edges for Cappellini

In 2008 the London based designers duo Raw Edges, founded by Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay presented their ‘Tailored Wood’ furniture for the first time at the Aram Gallery in London. This year the Italian manufacturer Cappellini took it into production and enlarged the family by an additional armchair. The light weight pieces are made from ash wooden veneer filled with expanding foam. This particular construction procedure and filling of the product renders each piece different from all the others.
