‘Stockholm Study’ stool by Jari Devad for Nikari

The latest as well as the last of the 12 designs from Nikari’s year-long project DESIGNS FOR NATURE, which brought together some of world’s most renowned designers or design studios, who, each month, created a wooden product, this pared-down, minimalist chair was developed in a collaborative process between the famed English product and furniture designer Jasper Morrison and Tokyo-based Wataru Kumano. Made of ash and natural wood oil mixture, here’s what the creators of ‘DECEMBER’ say about its design: ‘”We talked about the pleasure in making things and the idea of a chair that could be bought in a box and built at home. Considering Nikari’s skill in wood work, we worked up the idea of a chair which could be made by following easy instructions…’ (more…)

Continuing Nikari‘s year-long DESIGNS FOR NATURE project, the renowned Finnish wood manufacturer has just released the latest, ninth product from the series called ‘SEPTEMBER’. Designed by the Russian architect and designer Mikhail Barashkov, the understated bar stool is composed of a number of solid elm wood strips which form both the seat as well as the backrest of this elegant and simple design. As part of Nikari’s year-long project DESIGNS FOR NATURE, which brings together 12 renowned designers or design studios, who, each month, create a wooden product, the renowned Finnish wood manufacturer has just unveiled the latest, fifth design ‘MAY’. Created by the Kaj Franck Design Prize 2011 winner, interior architect, designer and lecturer Simo Heikkilä, the beautifully simple and quintessentially Scandinavian ‘MAY’ has been developed in solid birch and it will be showcased between 30 May – 4 June in Paris during the ‘Designers’ Days’ at the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 exhibition ‘1-2-3 Helsinki! Design en Seine’. Other designers working on the project include: Harri Koskinen, Martí Guixé, Alfredo Häberli and Jasper Morrison & Wataru Kumano who will team up for the December’s edition.

April tables by Alfredo Häberli for Nikari
Finnish leading wood design company Nikari has launched the APRIL tables by Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli. APRIL is part of the year-long project 2012 DESIGNS FOR NATURE, which tells about Nikari philosophy and wood design ideology: how they delicately manufacture exquisite quality furniture and products of the local forests’ wood in Fiskars Village.
