Jose Manuel Ferrero, the young Valencian designer and founder of estudi{H}ac practice has recently realised this family of white, large-scale lamps for the Spanish outdoor furniture specialists Vondom. Exhibited in September during the Feria Hábitat Valencia fair, the collection of sculptural, mushroom-like lights also provided an impressive focal point of a striking, site-specific outdoor installation ‘Un Bosque de Luz’ – Spanish for ‘A Forest of Light’ presented during the fair outside Hotel Ingles. The London-based design office of Héctor Serrano has recently realised this eye-catching pendant lamp for the Spanish lighting specialist arturo alvarez. ‘Inspired by the magic of a forest and the light [that] escapes through its majestic trees’, Woods appears to be suspended midair while the softly glowing light emanates through the multiple layers of birchwood bars. 'Nort' side table by the Valencian Estudio Estres

We’re currently in the beautiful, sun-drenched city of Valencia at Feria Hábitat Valencia 2011 – an annual design fair, which this year attracted some 950 exhibitors from more than 20 countries. And while the industry heavyweights present their relatively recent products from across the furniture, lighting and textile sectors, an impressive number of 40 recent graduates and young, up-and-coming design practices, showcase their talent with an array of innovative, at times surprising, products and prototypes at the coinciding nude (Nuevo Diseño Español) exhibition.

Aptly named ‘Just fold it,’ the screen ‘takes different spatial configurations depending on the angle between each module.’ (more…)

'Tears' modular coffee table by Patricia Urquiola

The Spanish manufacturer Viccarbe presented at this year’s Habitat Valenica a prototype of this modular coffee table by Patricia Urquiola. The table can be combined with four different tops and trays.

'Guerrilla' by Stone Designs for RS Barcelona

Actually the Spanish label RS Barcelona dedicated the exhibition at this year’s Habitat Valencia to its brand new flat pack cardboard stool ‘Eiffel’. Having a look at their catalogue of remarkable products the shelf ‘Guerrilla’ caught my eye, though. The hybrid of upholstery and storage system demonstrates the manufacturer’s penchant for higly versatile furniture.

'Kilim' by Sandra Figuerola for GAN

The Spanish manufacturer Gandia Blasco produces beside its collection of outdoor furniture a wide range of high quality carpets under the label GAN. At this year’s Habitat Valencia they presented some beautiful new designs, amongst others this traditional looking by slightly simplified Kilim by the Valencia based graphic and product designer Sandra Figuerola.
