The Bottle-up Project is a series of products made of glass waste tourists leave behind on Zanzibar, a tropical island on the coast of East Africa. An initiative of Hubert and Elisabeth van Doorne and the Dutch Design Week organisation, the Bottle-up Project was exhibited at DDW 2015 and tells the story behind bottle-up, the development process, the products and the follow-up.

Barovier&Toso Factory and Museum Photo Tour, photos: © Architonic
Architonic recently visited Barovier&Toso, one of the oldest glass companies (its history goes as far back as 1295!) on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. The exclusive factory visit, a rare event for the typically private company, gave us a glimpse of how these beautiful objects are made by their talented artisans. Also included, a tour of their in-house museum.

The ‘Geo’ suspended light by Vezzini & Chen has a glowing bone china center form and a clear glass sphere
For the London Design Festival, designers Vezzini & Chen created a collection of lighting and glass ware that express their affinity with nature by encapsulating forms created in fine bone china and glass from which light is directed and diffused.

‘Close Up’ table light by Cristina Vezzini and Sheng Tsang Chen
After recently finishing their MA at the Royal College of Art, Cristina Vezzini and Sheng Tsang Chen set up Vezzini & Chen, a ceramic and glass company based in north London. One of their first creations, ‘Close Up’, is a series of pendant and table lights made of bone china and glass.
