Designers Miriam Aust and Sebastian Amelung of Kassel, Germany based Aust & Amelung have created a tilting floor lamp with a simple mechanism to keep the main beam in balance.

Barcelona-based design studio CreativeAffairs has created a collection of lamps based on the idea of mixing two different archetypes, with different functions, in order to create a new typology of object. The two chosen archetypes are a table lamp and a trestle.

‘Odeon’, a portable light bound in leather designed for Italian design brand FontanaArte, is not an antidote to digital technology, it’s a complement say designers Studio Klass.



‘Funiculi’ floor lamp by Lluís Porqueras for Marset

Originally designed by the acclaimed Catalan designer Lluís Porqueras in 1979, this elegantly slender, glossy floor lamp has just been reissued by the Barcelona-based lighting specialists Marset. As its name suggests, the height of ‘Funiculi’ can be adjusted while the hemispheric shade can be rotated 360 degrees around its axis. Inspired by the funicular railways in Barcelona, the metal lamp is available in five colour options: white, black, red, beige and moss grey. ‘Leaf’ lamp by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Muuto

The Stockholm-based design duo Broberg & Ridderstråle have collaborated with the Danish furniture brand Muuto on this collection of neat and simple lamps called ‘Leaf’. Incorporating energy-efficient LED technology, the minimalist, organically-shaped light is available in two sizes and a range of soft pastel hues. (more…)

‘Cordula’ floor lamp by Stephanie Jasny

Inspired by the form of an ordinary cable reel, a young Munich-born designer Stephanie Jasny has realised this small floor lamp called ‘Cordula.’ The light features a seven-meters-long cable that can be conveniently looped around the steel body of the design while the pivot jont enables the light to be rotated and positioned at various angles. Conceived as part of Jasny’s graduate project back in 2009, ‘Cordula’ has since been put into production by the French furniture manufacturer Ligne Roset. (more…)

‘Moire’ lamp by Marc Sarrazin for Petite Friture

Known for their playful, out-of-ordinary collections, the French design company Petite Friture has collaborated with young Parisian designer Marc Sarrazin on this series of mesh lamps called ‘Moire’. Available in three sizes and two colours, the light can be either hung as a pendant, used as a floor or table lamp, or fixed to a wall. ‘Moire’ was presented as part of Petite Friture’s new collection at Spazio Rossana Orlandi in Milan. ‘Cargo’ floor lamp by Hervé Langlais for designheure

Inspired by the characteristic form of funnel liners, ‘Cargo’ is the latest collection of lamps designed by the French architect and designer Hervé Langlais for lighting brand designheure. Encompassing a floor/table version as well as pendant model available in various sizes, the monochrome collection was launched during this year’s edition of the Maison & Objet fair in Paris. (more…)
