Parisian Galerie Kreo at Design Miami/ Basel 2011

For the first time since it was founded in 2005, Design Miami/ Basel was this year under the new direction of Marianne Goebl, who curated the trade fair with an expert eye. In February 2011 she followed in the footsteps of Ambra Medda who, after splitting up with her partner Craig Robbins, also lost her commitment to her position as director of their joint baby, as was indicated at last year’s press conference. Design Miami/ Basel returns next week (14-18 June) to Switzerland for its 6th edition. During the fair, which each year coincides with ‘the Olympics of the art world’, Art Basel, more than 40 galleries from 10 different countries will showcase ‘never-before-seen historical and contemporary work and large-scale architectural installations’ as well as solo exhibitions from some of the most prominent designers including Pierre Charpin, Ron Gilad, Piet Hein Eek, Max Lamb, Joseph-André Motte and Jean Prouvé. 'TRON' armchair by Dror Benshetrit for Cappellini

Those of you who’ve seen the science-fiction film ‘TRON’ from 1982, one of the first films ever to use extensive computer graphics, might be somewhat sceptical about Disney’s soon-to-be-released sequel, 28 years after the original ground-breaking classic. With similar reservation, we would like to present the ‘TRON’ armchair, part of the movie’s production design and developed in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Cappellini and the New York-based designer Dror Benshetrit.
