Impressions from Clerkenwell Design Week 2011
Clerkenwell Design Week – London’s most buzzed-about event dedicated to all disciplines of design returned to the British Capital earlier last month (24-26.05) for its second edition. With more than 24 000 registered attendees and 74 exhibitions from established and up-and-coming international design brands, as well as countless talks, performances and events which enriched fair’s already-impressive schedule, this year’s edition of CDW has been a great success. Thanks to Architonic’s friends at Clerkenwell Design Week, we can now share this image gallery with our Facebook fans. Enjoy!

The London-based design studio Scene has created this new sculptural ‘Poly’ light which was presented as part of the A.S.A.P collective’s exhibition during this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Inspired by the geodesic sphere, the white high-gloss aluminium lamp is constructed from multiple triangular segments which enclose the lightbulb within a metallic golden-coloured interior and the design can be either displayed on a flat surface or suspended as a pendant. The Farmiloe Building, St John Street, London, one of Clerkenwell Design Week's venues
Clerkenwell Design Week, which takes place in London’s leading creative district of Clerkenwell, is a brand new three-day festival celebrating design’s creative richness, social relevance and technological advancements.
Its programme of exhibitions and installations will include high-profile brands such as Tom Dixon and MARK. Seminars, workshops and debates will aim to tackle thought-provoking issues on modern design and architecture. Big design names and inspirational thought leaders will also spearhead a crammed programme of left-field thinking and off-the-wall performances, designed to challenge preconceptions.

The event will also provide everything else one expects from a festival: street entertainment, live music, food, exhibitions and parties, all providing the ideal chance for creatives to network with clients in a relaxed, yet intensely stimulating, atmosphere.

Clerkenwell is widely acknowledged as the heart of London’s creative industries, boasting the most concentrated area of design business in the world. Located right next to the financial district of the City, it is home to over 2,000 architectural practices (10% of the UK’s profession), 60 design showrooms and a horde of film companies, new-media agencies, graphic- and interactive-design studios – all found amongst the area’s elegant greens, squares and historic architecture.
