Magnetic lamp by Serener.org for Functionals

Still a prototype but soon in production: the Dutch designer duo Jan Willem Hofma and Christoph Seyferth, together they are Serener.org, developed this magnetic multi-purpose lamp for the Dutch manufacturer Functionals.

A magnetized base allows the lamp to be placed on any iron object such as a steel table, shelf or radiator.

When Hans J. Wegner designed his futuristic Opala-series in the seventies for Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen, he also drew a smaller version of the Opala pendant light. For technical reasons it was impossible to manufacture this mini version to the Wegner standards for good lighting. Impossible until recently, when the Danish manufacturer Pandul developed a solution which the former manufacturer never succeeded in finding. Together with a reedition of the floor, table and bed side lamp the Opala mini pendant light is finally on the market.

All types of the ‘Opala’ lamps are now available in two sizes. The shade is manufactured in impact resistent opal high gloss acrylic, the top in wet painted aluminium in two colour variations – black and white. The stand is made in high gloss chrome and the base in wet painted solid steel, also in white and black.
