DM2N, the project-developement arm of Zurich-based architects EM2N, have completed the conversion of a 1961 supermarket into five ‘hall houses’, which retain the volume of the original structure.
The kitchens, dining and living areas of the private residences, situated on Winterthur’s Bettenplatz, were created out of the former sales area, and feature a ceiling height of four metres. A complex spatial system, comprising split levels and access to the roof, was developed around the main, hall-like living space.
Further features include individual entrances, private gardens and roof terraces. A number of the houses include an additional room with a panoramic view.
