Drawing his inspiration from the iconic De Stijl Red and Blue Chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld almost one hundred years ago (in 1917), a young award-winning Czech designer Jan Plecháč has created this bold, wire chair for Gispen’s ‘Playing With Tradition’ brand NgispeN. Launched last week at the Temporary Museum For New Design in Superstudio Piu, ‘ICON 03’ can be used both indoors and outdoors thanks to its durable steel structure.
About ‘ICON 03’:
‘The Red and Blue Chair designed by the famous Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1917Served as a model original. The wire design your retains some of the original spirit while leaving the original proportions, simple morphology, but application of new technology completely reverses its own identity and use.’
“The first time I saw the Icon chair by Jan Plecháč I was struck by its originality. The most iconic chair ever, the Red an Blue chair by Gerrit Rietveld was reinterpreted in a very original way. Jan played with this chair in a way which perfectly fit into the NgispeN collection of which the theme is: ‘Playing with Tradition’,” comments Richard Hutten (creative director of NgispeN).
