This passively heatable and partly pre-fabricated single family home in Tübingen/Germany was recently completed by the newly founded German practice architekten martenson und nagel theissen. The small lot size, the stated distance to the neighbour houses and the land needed for housing six people led to a tower-like building. In its compact cubature and the fully formulated housetop ‘JustK’ fits into the traditional surrounding of gray tufa buildings from the 1920s, interpreted contemporary.

Prefabrication, construction, surface treatment
Due to the physical requirements of passive houses, fast construction time, and future sustainability, the building is designed as a solid timber construction, which uses the possibilities of prefabrication intensively. The entire building consists of 136 items that were provided directly from the factory with folding and joinery for the carpentry as well as drilling and milling for the electrical installation.

Timber, which was selected as a renewable resource and because of its favorable energy balance, was consistently used for the construction and all surfaces inside. To save costs, the wood surfaces of the common areas are designed as “finished shell ‘. Industrial surfaces of the cross-laminated wood elements are polished, leached and soaped to obtain the bright character of the wood.
