For New York Design Week 2013 Francesco Pirrello, founder of Meet My Project, and Paris-based curator Clément Sauvoy have created French Design Connection, a 400 square meter showcase for design from France and Europe in the heart of New York.
The Chambers Hotel New York will host the exhibition which will feature pieces by well-known French manufacturers Saint-Louis and Christofle, emblematic editors Roche-Bobois, La Tôlerie Forézienne, Emeco, Dedar, Bulo, Serralunga, Design Within Reach, Brokis, Mixcv and major design personalities Christophe Pillet, Christophe Delcourt, Bram Boo, Ora Ito, Karim Rashid, Philippe Hurel, Brad Ascalon, Cedric Ragot, Stephen Burks, Claudio Colucci, Mathieu Lehanneur, Dan Yeffet & Lucie Koldova, Rodrigo Almeida in addition to prominent contemporary design galleries Cristina Grajales, SMO Galerie, Colombari, Secondome, not to mention an emerging young design talents Bette Eklund, Bina Baitel, Laurent Corio, Naama Hofman, Miwa Akabane, Loic Lobet & Anaïs Triolaire, and Cristina Liljenberg.
The principal goal of the ambitious project is to break the boundaries between traditional international fairs, gallery fairs and contemporary design gallery exhibitions. Say the organizers, “The objective is not only to export the best of European design to the Big Apple but also to build fundamental bridges between the two worlds in terms of art, design, creation and trade.”
Site-specific set design for French Design Connection will be provided by the Manhattan studio of Brad Ascalon, one of America’s leading design talents.
