With his latest design, the award-winning Italian designer Luca Nichetto, whom we had the pleasure of meeting during our trip to Foscarini’s HQ, revisits his native Venice and the centuries-old glassmaking traditions of Murano island. Inspired by the said ‘traditional glass lanterns made on the island of Murano,’ the new, dramatic pendant light is manufactured by the British company Established&Sons and it is Nichetto’s second product for the London-based brand.
Called ‘Dame‘, the suspension light can be assembled and its size modified accordingly to the surroundings within which it operates while aesthetically, the lamp ‘recalls both Tiffany lampshades and the stained-glass rose windows found in churches.’
More about the design:
‘The traditional glass lanterns made on the island of Murano are the inspiration for Dame, a collection of lamps designed to illuminate everything from large environments to far more intimate spaces depending on the manner in which one chooses to assemble its component parts.
‘Dame’s unique appearance is the result of the effect the light source has when its illumination is diffused through the lamp’s decorated inner thermoformed shade, which is made of an entirely innovative layering of fabric and polymeric foam, materials that are usually employed in automotive and sports manufacturing and have never before been used in the production of light fixtures.’
