Italian design brand Moroso has released a limited edition of 30 ‘Counting the Rice’ tables, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, which accommodates and gives shape to the Counting the Rice exercise conceived by artist Marina Abramovic.
The Counting the Rice exercise involves separating and counting grains of rice and lentils for a minimum of six hours while remaining seated, exploring the performer’s physical and psychological limits and transforming an everyday action into a meditative ritual. It is part of a series of workshops presented by the Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI), which acts as an immaterial institute, hosting events and performances at locations around the world. The proceeds from the sale of this collection will be donated to MAI.
Moroso’s production of the table is part of a much broader partnership with Abramovic, who is also close to the firm’s art director, Patrizia Moroso. The latter, in turn, has made her great passion for contemporary art a distinctive feature of the brand.
