British designer Ernest Race’s iconic 1950s designs, including classics like the Antelope, the Rocker and the BA3, are being relaunched by Belgian design brand BuzziSpace in homage to the celebrated designer.
“In the mid-twentieth century, Ernest Race’s furniture designs were every bit as innovative and experimental as BuzziSpace’s modern, innovative office designs are today.” says BuzziSpace. “So it is no surprise that BuzziSpace has chosen to pay tribute to Race. Great minds think alike! Race’s pieces were striking in their use of materials, particularly waste materials from the war that had ended a few years earlier.”
“For example, he made chairs using aluminium from British fighter planes, upholstered with parachute fabric. Likewise, BuzziSpace is constantly in search of responsible, alternative materials, such as the recycled plastic bottles it uses for its signature material, felt.”
The first selection of ‘BuzziSpace Legends’ will debut at the 2014 Maison et Objet fair in Paris this autumn.
