Hosted by HENN Architekten, the second annual 2013 Design Research Exchange is an eight week residency program that has established itself as an important intermediary between architectural practice and interdisciplinary research.
For two months, seven selected participants from the fields of architecture, civil engineering, IT and mathematics focused on the topic “Vertical Net Structures”, a continuation of the results from the first DRX in 2012.
“Within the DRX 2013 innovative computer-assisted design strategies for high-rise structures were developed.” says HENN. “The focus of investigation was on the derivation of space defining frameworks for buildings of approximately 500m high of which the structures, programs and façades function as integrative systems.”
Based on the input of this year‘s DRX experts, Mirco Becker, (Städelschule Frankfurt), Prof. Christoph Gengnagel (UdK Berlin), and Prof. Alexander Bobenko (Mathematics Institute of the TU Berlin) as well as the support of numerous workshops, three prototypical designs of innovative and efficient structures for high-rise buildings were developed.
