‘Polka’ table lamp by Florent Coirier
The Parisian-based designer Florent Coirier has recently unveiled his latest table lamp design called ‘Polka.’ Exhibited for the first time during this year’s edition of the Paris Design Week, the simple turned-oak light incorporates the LED technology while its concealed pivoting joint enables full 360 degree rotation of the lamp. Famous for their out of the ordinary works, the acclaimed Japanese design and architectural practice Nendo have realised this collective birdhouse intended for use by birds and humans alike. Designed for Momofuku Ando Center – ‘a facility devoted to promoting and increasing access to nature activities’ – the unique structure formally echoes the archetypal gabled house and is composed of 78 enclosures provided for birds to nest in as well as an adjacent one-room observation area.
‘Roebuck’ chair by Ernest Race reissued by Race Furniture
Originally designed by Ernest Race in 1951, ‘Roebuck’ chair was first created as an inexpensive alternative to the iconic, steel rod ‘Antelope’ chair designed by Race in the same year for the first edition of Festival of Britain. Now, the design, which was in production since its launch till 1968, has been reissued by the UK-based Race Furniture and it was recently presented at London’s Design Junction. (more…)
