Having recently won the prestigious Bruno Mathsson Award, Finnish designer Mika Tolvanen has realised this series of classic plywood chairs for the Scandinavian furniture brand Muuto. Speaking of his design, Tolvanen explained: “The task was to create a personal interpretation of the ever-relevant plywood/shell chair. I wanted my chair to have an unobtrusive and timeless nature that is familiar but never boring and without sacrificing function or ergonomics. In the end, I think every detail is exactly as it is supposed to be.” Available in a wide variety colours, ‘Visu’ series encompasses two different models: with wooden legs or a steel wire base.
More about the design:
‘Muuto’s new Visu chair is all about precision and detail. Through a meticulous design process, lasting almost two years, Muuto and Mika Tolvanen went through every curve, edge and detail over and over again. That is also why Mika Tolvanen chose the name Visu, – a reference to the Finnish word for precision. With a wide colour range, several upholstery options and a choice of two different bases, there is a Visu for any interior; at home, in a restaurant or at the office.’
