Inspired by the round pebbles in Japanese Gardens, the British design duo Barber Osgerby designed this archetypical table. The table-top is based on two planes which are in a right-angled position to each other for maximum structural stability and look different depending on the perspective.
Although the table and the bases give the impression of three carefully arranged monolithes out of the same material, the table top is made of wood whereas the ‘legs’ are made of polyurethane foam. To create a homogeneous appearance, all the elements have been treated with cement grout to create a sort of superficial leather that recalls a history of high-tech craftsmanship.
