'Unfold' pendant by Uli Budde

Inspired by the round brilliant diamond cut studied and developed by a Belgian engineer Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919, Berlin-based product designer Uli Budde has designed this geometric, 18-karat-gold pendant necklace. Called ‘Unfold’, the helical pendant has been realised in collaboration with the renowned Austrian jeweller A.E. Köchert and the design has been recently featured in ‘A Girl’s Best Friends – Creative Jewelry Design’ volume published by Gestalten Verlag. (more…)

Detail shot of the 'Arms chair' by THINKK + Studio248; design by THINKK Studio

Two Thai design studios THINKK run by Decha Archjananun and Ploypan Theerachai and Studio248 founded by Jakkapun Charinrattana have joined their creative forces to develop a new series of furniture and the outcome of this collaboration, a four-piece collection of beautifully simple, everyday designs will be presented at Ventura Lambrate during this year’s Salone del Mobile fair. Comprising a chair, a multifunctional, adjustable closet, a crane-inspired table lamp and sculptural stackable vase, the entire collection has been developed in ash wood, bar the ‘Merging Top’ vase whose design is composed from ash wood, marble and ceramic. 'Transcience' mirror by David Derksen and Lex Pott (NL)

With their recent project, David Derksen and Lex Pott - two young designers and Design Academy Eindhoven alumni – explored and reinterpreted the naturally occurring process of oxidation by using sulfur to accelerate and recreate this otherwise spontaneous, slowly-developing ageing process of silvered-glass mirror. By careful calculation and manipulation, the designers ‘stained’ the mirrors thus achieving a beautiful, geometric ombré pattern that is further accentuated by the overall shape of each of the three mirrors. Luna Seo, a young South Korean designer currently completing her studies at Stockholm’s Konstfack, has recently completed this series of asymmetric, solid wood bookshelves called ‘SML LR’. The collection, which includes three, variously sized models that can be used either on their own or in combination with each other, will be presented next month at Ventura Lambrate during the Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan. 'Porcelain' pendant light by Studio WM; photo by Paul Schipper

Wendy Legro and Maarten Collignon, a duo of young, Eindhoven-trained designers behind Rotterdam-based Studio WM, have realised these two, pared-down pendant lights: a shipyard-inspired, black opaque model called ‘Porcelain’ and a similar, hand-blown glass version, ‘Gradient.’ Based on the same principle, both of the designs employ a pulley mechanism which enables an easy adjustment of the height of the lamps. Part of the ‘Lightness in Lines’ collection, the lights will be presented at Ventura Lambrate during the Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan. (more…)

'c1' rug from the 'Room moment' collection by detailF

Franziska Wernicke, a Rotterdam-based textile designer and founder of detailF design studio has realised this subdued, four-piece collection of New Zealand wool rugs called ‘room moment’. Comprising one rectangular and three circular versions, the series features a distinctive three-colour gradation which is accentuated by a delicate radial pattern emanating from an offset point. A complex, high-tech tufting technique has been used in the production of the series and the ‘c3′ model of the rug was exhibited and nominated for the ‘interior innovation award 2012′ at the imm cologne’s [D³] Contest. 'Loveless' school chair by Martin Hirth; photo courtesy of the designer

A young German designer Martin Hirth has developed this collection of four chairs composed of reclaimed school-chair frames and upholstered, quilted seats. Called ‘Loveless’, the series was showcased earlier this year as one of 28 products created by up-and-coming designers during imm cologne’s [D³] Contest. (more…)

'The living structure' furniture concept by David Hanauer

Extremely simple in its structure yet serving multiple functions, this geometric frame called ‘The living structure’ has been devised by a young German designer David Hanauer. The reduced, skeletal form of the piece allows the user to adapt it according to particular needs – with the addition of a powder-coated aluminium sheet, the maple-wood structure can be transformed into a wall-mounted shelf or a simple, freestanding table. Presented at the [D³] Contest during this year’s edition of imm cologne, the concept was nominated for the Interior Innovation Award 2012. Watch ‘The living structure’ come to life in the video below. (more…)
