The Austrian/Croatian designstudio For Use/Numen presented their impressing tape installation during this year’s DMY festival in Berlin. Due to the large area it was not possible to mount the installation as it was conceived like a kind of parasite, site specific object, which uses the existing architecture as docking units. Instead it was built into a custom scaffolding construction, executed within four days (approximately 160 working hours) utilizing almost 700 conventional transparent tapes (45 km of tape).
“The tendons of multiple layers of transparent adhesive tape are firstly stretched in between a construction. The following continuous wrapping of tendons results in a complex, amorphous surface through the process reminiscent of growing of organic forms. The idea for the installation originates in a set design concept for a dance performance in which the form evolves from the movement of the dancers between the pillars. The dancers are stretching the tape while they move, so the resulting shape is a (tape) recording of the choreography”, the designers explain.

“I believe that many of the forms with which we surround ourselves look the way they do because someone was in a hurry when they made them. Things take time and good things take good time. I like organic furniture that looks as though it was made by nature itself – without stress. Wooden furniture is also warm and obliging. To me, wood is the perfect material because it is so imperfect. It challenges me constantly. No two pieces are ever alike.” The designer explains.

Artemide presented this variably adaptable LED lamp at this year’s light+building in Frankfurt. German director of Artemide Steffen Salinger gave us this informative introduction.
The wall lamp ‘Écran’ is the second creation the French designer Inga Sempé designed for the Italian manfacturer Luceplan. Its body is made from cast aluminium. The diffuse illumination, produced by an energy-saving halogen bulb, is doubled to reach the setting both directly, through the white silk-screened glass diffuser, and indirectly, through a slit in the wall support towards the wall.

‘Archetype’ is a lamp with a classical shape, inspired by the traditional Scandinavian design adopted by Goodmorning Technology, the Danish company signing the project.
Its exterior structure is in painted aluminium and the internal diffuser is in transparent polycarbonate; integrated between these two elements is a warm white LED and an E27 screw attachment for connection to any standard-size traditional bulb holder.
