A collaborative project of the Los Angeles-based product designer Cory Grosser and Walt Disney Signature, this elegant, solid walnut ‘Airline_009′ armchair and ottoman have been designed as a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Streamline Moderne ‘Airline Chair’ which was first created and produced in limited quantities for Walt Disney’s animation studio in Burbank, California in 1934. Two renowned architectural practices, REX and OMA, have collaborated on this Dallas Centre of the Performing Arts, also known as Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, which was completed in 2009. Realised as ‘flexible and multi-form while requiring minimal operational costs’, the 7700-square-meters 575-seat theatre can be easily transformed into a number of configurations including proscenium, thrust, and flat floor, thus enabling ‘directors and scenic designers to choose the stage-audience configuration that fulfills their artistic desires.’ (more…)

Monstrans, the Virginia-based multidisciplinary architecture and design practice established in 2008 by a local architect Leo Salom has just sent us this images of their recently-completed stool design inspired by ‘a fascination with airplane, bridge and ship building parts that plainly display the way the industrial machine body is assembled.’ (more…)

'Star table' by 0 to 1

Tamara Petrovic and Garner Oh, the duo behind the New York-based architectural and design practice 0 to 1 have created this compact, dismantable table composed of an origami-like interlocked bamboo base and a glass tabletop. Described by the designers as: ‘a study in form triangulation and light frame construction’, the ‘Star table’ is available in various heights. 'Pro forma' collection by Rich Brilliant Willing for Volume Galery

Until April 3rd the New York based designer trio Rich Brilliant Willing are showcasing their newest creation, the ‘Pro forma’ collection, at the Volume Gallery in Chicago – an exhibition space focused on American design. The collection comprises a series of personal storage pieces inspired by international air-shipping containers. They are produced in a limited edition and available through the gallery.
