'Ribbon' stool by Nick Rawcliffe for Deadgood
Inspired by the charity awareness ribbons, British designer Nick Rawcliffe of Rawstudio has realised this polypropylene stool collection for the Newcastle-based manufacturer Deadgood. Presented earlier this year at Designjunction during London Design Festival, ‘Ribbon’ is manufactured in Wales (‘hence the sheep’, we’ve been told by Deadgood’s director Elliot Brook) in a rotational moulding process with the endorsement of Breast Cancer Care charity who will receive a donation from sales of the pink version of the stool. With an aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and ‘encourage children to grow their own herbs or vegetables as well as prepare the food’ , the young UK-based interior and product designer Ruth Vatcher has created this multifunctional table ‘Eat Play Grow’. The simple, yet highly imaginative oak-wood design incorporates various functions such as a herb sprouting tray, a chopping board for food preparation, a ceramic watering pot and a charcoal felt storage system for tools and toys. This curvilinear, award-winning airport located in Farnborough, Hampshire has been realised by the London-based practice 3DReid. The project encompasses an imposing, futuristic-looking 35-meters-high tower, an oscilloscopic 12,000-square-meters aircraft hangar and a voluptuous 4,000-square-meters operations and headquarters building. The RIBA-award-winning practice of John Pardey has realised this beautifully simple single-storey family house located within a tranquil setting of New Forest National Park, UK. Completed earlier last year (in 2010), the elegant, linear holiday house boasts an open-plan living area, four bedrooms as well as a dressing room and a study while the floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with natural light. 'Katakana' sofa by Dare Studio
Ahead of this year’s edition of London’s 100%Design fair, the Brighton-based contemporary brand Dare Studio has recently expanded its already-impressive collection of handmade, elegant and timeless furniture. The new designs, which will be presented at the show later in September, include a highly-expressive coat stand developed in solid wood, a multifunctional storage system whose colourful modules reminded us of Eames’ iconic 1949 ESU Bookcase, as well as this well-proportioned leather-and-wood ‘Katakana’ sofa. Ahead of next week’s official opening, we have just received the images of this striking, newly completed Liverpool Museum designed by the Copenhagen-based practice 3XN. The museum, which will open its doors to the public on 19.07 is the largest museum built in the UK for over a century and the bold geometric structure is situated by the Mersey River, on a UNESCO World Heritage Site next to Liverpool’s famous waterfront buildings: the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the former offices of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, also known as ‘Three Graces’. The London-based design studio Scene has created this new sculptural ‘Poly’ light which was presented as part of the A.S.A.P collective’s exhibition during this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Inspired by the geodesic sphere, the white high-gloss aluminium lamp is constructed from multiple triangular segments which enclose the lightbulb within a metallic golden-coloured interior and the design can be either displayed on a flat surface or suspended as a pendant.
