‘Eclipse mirror’ by Uli Budde

Known for their well-curated and undeniably insightful shows, the Czech creative collective Okolo strikes again, this time with an exhibition focusing on the ‘trend of creating mirrors in the context of contemporary experimental design’ which emerged in the recent years. On view at at the Superstudio Clam-Gallasův palác during the upcoming Designblok 2012, Prague Design and Fashion Week which opens on Monday (1 October), ‘The Mirror’ will present various forms of the mirror perceived by contemporary designers and artists such as, among many; Uli Budde, Oscar Diaz, Tomáš Král, OS ∆ OOS and Martin Žampach. The process of designing the series

The Slovakian-born Switzerland-based industrial designer Tomas Kral has collaborated with the recently-founded Spanish label PCM on a glassware collection, parts of which are based on original molds from the late 19th century. The beautifully crafted series comprises three vases and a set of drinking glasses and carafes, all of which have been decorated with various cut-patterns. More interestingly, the ‘Reused History’ collection was produced by the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja de San Ildefonso in Segovia, Spain, which is one of the last three remaining European glassworks that still blows the glass following the 18th century techniques. Now, thanks to the designer, we can share this series of insightful photographs documenting the manufacturing process of the collection. (more…)

Inspired by the typical red clown nose the young Swiss designer and graduate from ECAL Tomas Kral realised this series of ceramic bins, closable through cork balls which are connected with coloured elastics.
