‘Meet’ ottomans and low tables by A2

Sara Larsson of the young Swedish design brand A2 has realised this series of pentagonal ottomans and low tables called ‘Meet’. Composed of a geometric, oiled oak frame and upholstered seat (in the case of the ottoman), the designs can be linked together allowing for endless configurations. Both the ottoman as well as the table are made in in Småland, southern Sweden, and are available in a wide variety of colours. (more…)

The hand-chiselled surface of the ’Havet’ cabinet by Snickeriet

‘Havet’ – Swedish for ‘sea or waves’ is an intricately-detailed, hand-chiselled cabinet created by designers Karl-Johan Hjerling and Karin Wallenbeck for a Stockholm-based brand specialising in carpentry, Snickeriet. Developed in pine wood, each of the richly-textured cabinets is unique due to the traditional carving technique employed in its production process. (more…)

'Brev' storage unit by Emma Olbers for Asplund

A Stockholm-based furniture designer Emma Olbers has collaborated with the Swedish brand Asplund on this simple, pared-down wall-mounted locker. Called ‘Brev’, the unit is reminiscent of an enlarged, archetypal envelope and it is available in fine leather as well as lacquered metal finish in variety of bold colours such as anthracite, white, violet, olive, nougat, deep blue and orange. 'Shelf Lamp' by Andreas Engesvik for David Design

The Norwegian designer and guest professor at Stockholm’s Konstfack university Andreas Engesvik has recently realised this pared-down, ‘low tech’ lamp for the Swedish furniture and fashion brand David Design. Composed of only two parts – a small pine base and a lacquered-metal disk – the minuscule ’Shelf Lamp’ was launched earlier this year during Stockholm Design Week. (more…)

Equally, or perhaps even more known for their furniture and product design rather than architectural projects, the prominent Swedish practice Claesson Koivisto Rune have recently completed this crisp-white, minimalist, seafront villa. Located on the second largest Swedish island of Öland, the development is made of solid white, precast concrete which enabled the architects to achieve ‘the ultimate precision in manufacturing tolerance and colour/finish.’ (more…)

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Milan’s SaloneSatellite, this year its organisers invited fifteen international designers who presented their designs under the theme of ‘Design<->Technology’. Among the the exhibiting designers, all of whom were either former or current participants in the Satellite, was the award-winning Swedish designer Staffan Holm who showcased this delicate, bentwood chair. Inspired by nature, the aptly-named ‘Branch’ was created with the use of complex wood bending technology, Compwood. (more…)

'Melt down' pendant light by Johan Lindstén

Inspired by his recent trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, a young Swedish designer Johan Lindstén has created this series of spherical, semi-translucent pendant lights called ‘Melt down’. Suspended from a simple, coloured lamp cord, the design features an oval shade whose form appears to have adapted to a protruding light bulb located within. ‘Melt down’ was showcased earlier in April at Salone del Mobile’s Salone Satellite. 'Level' bookshelf by Lina Nordqvist for Karl Andersson & Söner

A Stockholm-based designer Lina Nordqvist has recently realised this series of geometric, scaffolding-inspired bookshelves for the Swedish furniture manufacturer Karl Andersson & Söner. Available in two heights and three widths as well as variety of finishes, the asymmetrically gridded ‘Level’ ‘is adapted to the different sizes of paperbacks, hardback books and magazines that can be placed between the rods.’ (more…)
