‘Funiculi’ floor lamp by Lluís Porqueras for Marset

Originally designed by the acclaimed Catalan designer Lluís Porqueras in 1979, this elegantly slender, glossy floor lamp has just been reissued by the Barcelona-based lighting specialists Marset. As its name suggests, the height of ‘Funiculi’ can be adjusted while the hemispheric shade can be rotated 360 degrees around its axis. Inspired by the funicular railways in Barcelona, the metal lamp is available in five colour options: white, black, red, beige and moss grey. A Valencia-based architectural practice Fran Silvestre Arquitectos have realised this beautiful, minimalist villa embedded in a rocky mountain wall located in the Spanish coastal town of Calp. Completed earlier this year, the tranquil, waterfront house boasts a number of airy, pristine white rooms as well as an infinity edge pool and a terrace offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. ‘Between centers’ series features characteristic marks synonymous with the process of woodturning

Inspired by the traditional woodturning technique, a young, Madrid-based designer Jorge de la Cruz has realised this three-piece collection called ‘Between centres’. Consisting of a stool, banquette and a dining/working table models, the understated, minimalist series features characteristic marks synonymous with the process of woodturning and the pieces, which are available in wither maple or dyed birch wood, were first presented earlier last month during Dutch Design Week 2012 in Eindhoven. ‘Float’ sofa by Karim Rashid for Sancal

The prolific, award-winning Egyptian-born designer Karim Rashid has realised this bold, geometric sofa for the Spanish sofa specialists Sancal. Called ‘Float’, the proportionally top-heavy design is supported by delicate wooden legs and each of the sofa’s components, such as; arms, seat, back and headrest, can be modified and upholstered in a fabric of choice. Launched earlier this year, the sofa is available in three different sizes and is part of Sancal’s ‘Flash Collection‘ which also includes pieces by Luis Eslava, Rafa Garcia and Juan Ibáñez. (more…)

Valencian design studio La Mamba have collaborated with a young Spanish manufacturer Omelette-ed on this collection of highly-decorative and functional dry food containers. First Prize – ‘The Optical Window’ by Smart Metropolitans, Poland

The wait is over! VIBIA, in cooperation with Architonic, are excited to announce the three winners of the CREA AWARDS 2012 edition. Creative minds from 40 different countries have participated in this contest, providing ideas for lighting applied to architecture and interior design.The main goal: to create inspiring and convincing photo collages of spaces illuminated using Vibia’s new modular lighting collections.The winners were selected on the basis of the conceptual interaction of the light setting with space, their creativity and the architectural and visual quality of the projects. The decision wasn’t easy for jury members Sevil Peach, Ulrike Brandi, Lars Krückeberg, Martin Gran, Francesc Rifé and Tobias Lutz. Diagonal 123 Office Building by Dominique Perrault Architecture; photo by Michel de Guzman

This bold, geometric office building located in Barcelona was completed in 2009 by the award-winning Parisian architect and his namesake studio Dominique Perrault Architecture. Boasting 12 offices, two commercial spaces and four underground car park levels, the glass-clad building is composed of 12 storeys and its floor area totals 18.188 square meters. (more…)

Madrid-based Virai Arquitectos have realised this Institutional Winery of La Grajera located in the northern Spanish city of Logroño. Composed of several detached buildings, the 2011-completed development ‘seeks an equilibrium between the need to announce the presence of the winery and the desire to merge with the landscape: the volumes follow the deformations of the land and are interrupted, moving towards the forest, remaining close to its border and thus respecting the existing vegetation.’ (more…)
