‘Stammtisch’ table by Alfredo Häberli for Quodes
Zürich-based designer Alfredo Häberli has collaborated with Dutch furniture company Quodes on this pared-down, solid wood dining table design. Featuring a contrasting, oversized metal joinery which also forms a part of table’s base, ’Stammtisch’ is made of natural oak and the design has just been named as one of the winners of the Interior Innovation Award 2013. ‘Maya’ desk by James Melia for Dare Studio
The latest addition to the Brighton-based furniture brand Dare Studio‘s collection, the pared-down design of this solid-wood ‘Maya’ desk was developed by UK-based designer James Melia. Launched earlier this year during London Design Festival in September, the highly-sculptural piece features a large concealed drawer and two ‘secret’ storage units and is available in variety of materials and finishes such as American black walnut or white oak or ash with an optional timber or Corian top. ‘Twist Stone’ table by Formstelle for Zeitraum
Munich-based design studio Formstelle have realised this collection of side and coffee tables for the German furniture brand Zeitraum. Developed in variety of woods such as oak, ash, American cherry, American walnut and European walnut, ‘Twist Stone’ series is characterised by simple, organically shaped, asymmetric tabletop which rests on delicate, inward-bent frame. ‘Nordica’ chair by Marco Ferreri for Billiani
An Italian, family-run furniture brand Billiani has recently released this simple, solid wood chair designed by architect and designer Marco Ferreri. A modern, pared-down reinterpretation of the classic tub chair, ‘Nordica’ features curved, semi-circle backrest whose fluid form is juxtaposed with the straight lines of its seat and base. ‘Lolo’ by Maison Martin Margiela for Cerruti Baleri
The Belgian fashion house Maison Martin Margiela strikes yet again and ventures back into the world of furniture design with this simple, asymmetric bookcase-cum-closet called ‘Lolo’. Manufactured by the Italian brand Cerruti Baleri, the self-assembly unit is made of solid exotic wood and birch plywood panels and it is available in two finishes: black and light grey. (more…)

As part of ‘Edition of 9′ exhibition which was organised earlier this year for the occasion of Milan’s Ventura Lambrate, the London-based designer Oscar Diaz has realised this lightweight, pared-down wooden stool called ‘Aro’. Handcrafted by local craftsmen from the Vicenza province, the three-legged design incorporates two hoops which, apart from forming the seat, are also intended to serve as a handle. ‘Aro’ is available in either natural or stained black ash. A young Korean-American designer Steve Oh has just unveiled his latest collection of maple furniture during this year’s edition of New York’s ICFF. ‘A personal interpretation of classic Shaker furniture’ which is known for its ascetic simplicity and use of innovative joinery, Oh’s equally pared-down, functional ’A Collection’ has been developed in its entirety using natural materials: solid maple wood and 100% wool felt and comprises a chair, a barstool and a table designs. Following his ‘research to find the boundaries of raw material properties,’ a young Israeli designer and recent Industrial design Graduate of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Michael Blumenfeld has realised this neat solid wood stool called ‘Triz In’ (Hebrew for ‘wedge’). Based on the principle of splitting wedge, the curvilinear stool is constructed by insertion of three wedges between two thin plates of wood without the use of any additional parts or joints.
