‘M.a.s.s.a.s.’, an abbreviation from a rather curious while perhaps hinting amalgam of words: ‘Moroso, Asymmetric, Sofa, System, Adorably, Stitched’, is the latest collection of generously-sized sofas and armchairs developed by the acclaimed Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. Manufactured by the Italian furniture specialists Moroso, the collection features a decorative, raised stitching which runs along the edges of the upholstered pieces. (more…)
The prolific, award-winning Egyptian-born designer Karim Rashid has realised this bold, geometric sofa for the Spanish sofa specialists Sancal. Called ‘Float’, the proportionally top-heavy design is supported by delicate wooden legs and each of the sofa’s components, such as; arms, seat, back and headrest, can be modified and upholstered in a fabric of choice. Launched earlier this year, the sofa is available in three different sizes and is part of Sancal’s ‘Flash Collection‘ which also includes pieces by Luis Eslava, Rafa Garcia and Juan Ibáñez. (more…)
Helsinki-based designer Mikko Laakkonen has realised this boldly-coloured two-seater sofa for the Finnish furniture manufacturer Inno. Due to be presented next month at the upcoming edition of Habitare design fair (12 – 16 September), the upholstered ‘Aura’ features a simple, exposed steel frame and a raised back for increased privacy. Brussels-based designer Maarten De Ceulaer has realised this rather curious, biomorphic collection of foam furniture called ‘Mutation Series.’ Likened by the designer to a ‘virus or bacteria that has grown dramatically out of scale’, the series encompasses multiple seating designs with each piece being unique due to the irregularity of the design pattern. The French furniture manufacturer Ligne Roset has reissued this bold seating collection originally created by the late, much-acclaimed designer Pierre Paulin for the presidential Elysée Palace. Comprising an armchair, a footstool and a small settee model, ‘Elysée’ series has been reconstructed from Paulin’s plans using new materials such as multi-density polyurethane foam for increased comfort and durability. The range, which initially was developed in muted oatmeal shades, has now been released in vividly coloured wools and each of the models can also be upholstered in leather. (more…)
The acclaimed, Stockholm-based design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune have recently collaborated with the Italian furniture brand Tacchini on this collection of large, upholstered sofas and armchairs called ‘Lima‘. Similarly to the ‘Montevideo‘ model, also designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune in 2008, ‘Lima’ features a generously-sized seat based atop delicate, thin-legged frame. The collection was unveiled in April during Milan’s Salone del Mobile fair. (more…)
