Ionna Vautrin's sketch for 'Musette'

Known for her penchant for subtle, pared-down and frequently round or soft-cornered forms, French designer Ionna Vautrin has created this simple multifunctional table-cum-storage-cum-tray for the Danish manufacturer De Vorm. Presented earlier in April at De Vorm’s exhibition in Zona Tortona’s Via Novi 5, ‘Musette’ has been inspired by ‘the oriental tables which are used during the tea ceremony’. (more…)

'Torei' table collection by Luca Nichetto for Cassina

Inspired by the flexibility of use and reduced proportions of serving trays, the Venetian designer Luca Nichetto has developed this collection of small, elongated solid-wood tables for the Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina. Named after ‘a phonetic transposition of the Japanese word for “tray”’, ‘Torei’ can be arranged and grouped in multiple combinations or used individually, according to need. The elegant and multifunctional system was presented earlier last month during the Salone del Mobile fair. (more…)

'Bell' tables by Sebastian Herkner for ClassiCon

A young German designer Sebastian Herkner revisited the traditional glass blowing technique with this side and coffee table design called ‘Bell’. Composed of a hand-blown, jewel-coloured translucent base and a handcrafted, solid brass frame, the tables were presented by ClassiCon at this year’s edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile fair. In Milan’s Zona Tortona, on Via Solari 35, the Italian design powerhouse Cappellini has presented an array of brand’s 2012 novelties, among them this pared-down table created by a Brussels-based designer Sylvain Willenz. Named ‘Candy Table’, the piece is part of Willenz’s Candy Collection, which explores and reinvents the steel reinforcement bars normally used as construction material for concrete structures. The steel tables are available in two various shapes and sizes (with a square or round tabletop) and in five different matt colours such as; blue, black, green, white and red. (more…)

Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, a duo architects behind the Copenhagen-based design studio GamFratesi have created this bold, black-stained ash side table whose form resembles that of a traditional sewing box or a picnic basket. Released this year by the French manufacturer Ligne Roset, the design encompasses a generous storage compartment located beneath the tabletop. (more…)

‘JL Faber’ collection by Julian Löhr for Loehr (DE)

Established only few months ago, in December 2011, Loehr is a Hamburg-based family-run brand specialiasing in design and development, manufacture and distribution of premium furniture made from natural materials. As part of their first collection, Loehr has unveiled this series of ‘JL Faber’ stools and tables designed by Julian Löhr during this year’s edition of imm cologne fair. Developed in solid oak, ‘JL Faber’ encompasses four products: a stool, bar stool, and a side and bistro tables. Characterised by a clean, geometric form of the three-legged base reminiscent of the ‘traditional half-timbered houses of northern Europe’, the ‘JL Faber’ collection is available in natural oak or stained in five colours. 'Climber' coffee table by Frans Schrofer for Leolux

A Dutch designer Frans Schrofer has collaborated with Leolux on this series of coffee tables called ‘Climber’. The collection encompasses three simple tables which will be available in April in three different heights and variety of finishes such as lacquered MDF, oiled or stained solid oak and American walnut.
