The design was launched during the Salone del Mobile 2012 fair. Watch the designer explain the idea behind ‘minuscule’ in the video below. (more…)

‘Atelier Chair’ by EOOS for Walter Knoll

Gernot Bohmann, Harald Gründl and Martin Bergmann, aka the Viennese design practice EOOS have recently realised this pared-down, steel-and-leather armchair for the German upholstered furniture specialists, Walter Knoll. Hyde version of the ‘Float’ table by Luca Nichetto for La Chance; photo by Stanislas Wolff

Bold, inverted conical sphere seems to balance on its apex in Luca Nichetto‘s latest table design for the recently-launched French furniture brand La Chance. Aptly named ‘Float’, the seemingly simple, uncomplicated form of the table has been achieved thanks to the complex metal leaf turnery technology which is normally employed in aircraft production. Featuring a reflective, mirrored base, ‘Float’ is available in two colour versions: high-gloss Lamborghini yellow or sombre matte grey aluminium finish. The design was unveiled, along with La Chance’s debut ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ collection, during this year’s Salone del Mobile at MOST. (more…)

The ultra-prolific Japanese design practise Nendo has collaborated with a Czech manufacturer of bespoke light fittings and glass installations Lasvit on this delicate, organically-shaped pendant light called ‘Inhale’. Owing its name to the innovatory production process, in which the form is obtained by a negative air pressure, the design was exhibited as part of Nendo’s delicate, all-white ‘Still & Sparkling’ installation during this year’s edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile. After his much-talked about ‘Avus’ armchair, which was launched by Plank during the 2011 edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile fair, the Munich-based designer Konstantin Grcic has recently created a comparatively less extravagant but perhaps more practical seat for the same manufacturer. Crafted in either aluminium or bronze, ‘Suple System’ has been first employed in the design of this simple side table made of FSC-certified Rauli beech indigenous to the forests of Chile and Argentina. The piece was presented along with gt2P’s modular ‘Cracked System’ at Milan’s Ventura Lambrate in April. (more…)
