'Summerhouse Inside Out Hvaler' by Reiulf Ramstad Architects
Thanks to the low density of poplation and the dramatic countryside there is an old tradition of small and modest summerhouses in Norway and the rest of Scandinavia – an ideal playing field for architects.
The Norwegian architects Reiulf Ramstad Architects planned this wooden 80 sqm summerhouse on the beautiful Hvaler Islands.

'Summerhouse Inside Out Hvaler'
Here is what the architects say:
“The house is beautifully situated on the top of a hill overlooking the ocean and the horizon, placed in the midst of an uncultivated landscape on a small peninsula. The design of the house allows a close interaction with the surrounding nature and the beautiful scenery. It provides a feeling of being outdoor when inside. The small scale of the house together with the use of wooden materials that will gradually develop a grey patina allows the project to interact and fit in with the existing shape and natural colours of the surrounding landscape. At the same time the design contrast with the traditional building practise of the area.”

Villa Heshagen by Reiulf Ramstad Architects
Last year the Norwegian Reiulf Ramstad Architects finished this 350 sqm private single family villa in Asker near Oslo.
“The site is secluded and faces towards a field. The house is placed on a slope with an entrance from the back side. Main entry for the house on the second floor where childrens bedrooms and the garage are located. The double-volume living area on the ground floor is specially designed to accommodate the owner’s grand piano and master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The house is clad in Siberian pine which will acquire a grey patina over time. “
