Henning Koppel's 'BUBI' pendant light, relaunched by Danish lighting manufacturer Pandul
Danish lighting manufacturer Pandul has brought a striking piece of classic Scandinavian design back to life by relaunching Henning Koppel’s ‘BUBI’ pendant light. Designed in 1972 and produced by Louis Poulsen until 1980, the reedition by Pandul sees the original brass component of the lamp substituted with chrome, whose brilliance acknowledges the designer’s renowned body of work in silver for, among others Georg Jensen. Koppel’s ‘Silver Fish Platter’ from 1954 is perhaps his best-known work in this metal.

'Lens' by Jens Fager for ZERO
Back to roots: After times of formal experimentation and technical and aesthetic hig-end appearances it seems like the archtypical design found its way back to modern living rooms – original forms which refer to times, when things were above all appreciated for their usability. Some of the new creations by the Swedish lighting manufacturer ZERO took up this trend. Jens Fager’s series of lamps ‘Lens’ consists of two pendant lights and a table lamp. The lamp shades are made from painted aluminum and matt acrylic. The table lamp can be mounted on the adjustable table base or fixed through the table top.

'Kalotte' by Sebastian Summa for Hugo Bräuer Metallwaren
By means of its relatively simple and artless old buildings one can see that Neukölln, since a few year’s one of the hippest quarters of Berlin, used to be a typical worker’s house area with many workshops and lots of small-scale industry once.
Some of these old workshops survived and with the help of some Berlin based designers one of them was even able to draw attention to a trade which has almost disappeared behind the globalised market. Together with the industrial designer Sebastian Summa, who is trained as a blacksmith and graduated at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, the 100 year’s old family owned metal spinning workshop Hugo Bräuer Metalware developed this beautiful series of suspension lamps.

'Stolz und Schabernack' by Stefan Wieland
The titles of his works are as bloomy as they are colourful in appearance: ‘Stolz und Schabernack’ (‘pride and hoax’) or ‘Der frühe Morgen ist Verheißung’ (‘the early evening is a promise’). The German designer Stefan Wieland creates loud and expressive lamps and furniture made from roughly worked – welded, painted and bent materials such as acryl glass, veneer or laminate. In his likewise crude but beautiful explanations you will read comments like “To provoke errors and then cultivate them”, “Sunshine, o sunshine, how you are shining in my cup of peppermint tea” and “to split a painting into fragments and restructure”.
