'Hadar' by Cyril Afsa

The French designer Cyril Afsa realised this impressing table lamp for Specimen Edition and BSL Galerie in Paris. The geometric pattern was inspired by “muqarnas”, artificial stalactites known from traditional arabic architecture. Due to the three-dimensional structure – made of 3D printing – the light of the fluorescent tube is diffused to a sophisticated pattern of light.

Numbers and dates encrypted into patterns: 'WIRRWARR' by Jürgen Mayer H.

The German publishing house Hatje Cantz recently launched this large-sized book by Jürgen Mayer H. The Berlin based architect presents one of his special intrests, his collection of around four hundred different patterns of data protection methods and preprints used by banks to encrypt pass codes or PIN numbers in letters to customers.

'A Band Apart' upholstery fabric by Sarah Morris

The New York based textile manufacturer Maharam is a fourth generation family-run business which produces high-quality fabrics for wall coverings, windows and upholstery. The collection includes beautiful graphical designs, such as those of the American artist Sarah Morris and playful and vivid prints by Paul Smith.

'Fire' pattern for Kvadrat pillowcases by Cristian Zuzunaga

His impressing colourful visual landscapes were discovered by one of the best textile companies. Kvadrat will launch a new collection of textiles designed by the Barcelona born and London based pattern designer Cristian Zuzunaga.

His cushion collection, ‘Squaring of the Circle’, consists of three designs, named ‘Spirit’, ‘Soul’ and ‘Fire’, which are all constructed from pixels – the designer’s trademark pattern. Each cushion will be unique thanks to the repeat of the printed fabric. This as well as Cristian Zuzunaga’s curtain collection ‘Skyline and Cityscape’ will be presented during this year’s London Design Festival at the Kvadrat showroom, 10 Shepherdess Walk, London N1 7LB.

'ONE Kearny Lobby' by IwamotoScott Architecture

The San Fransisco based practice IwamotoScott Architecture, founded by Craig Scott and Lisa Iwamoto is famous for its spectectular conceptual interiors and architectural installations. Recently they got the chance to translate their ideas into a permanent installation – the husband-and-wife-team realised this lobby entrance at One Kearny which is characterised by a beautiful lighting sulpture made from cone-shaped translucent wooden veneer.

'Incitament' in Aalborg, 2009

The Copenhagen based textile designer realised some new stunning light installations. One of them is the 6 x 6 meter neon tapestry for Gigantium, a culture center in Aalborg, which is made from a beautyfully composed raster of neon tubes in several gradings of green.

’5240 Vollsmose’ in Odense is a gigantic ornament on the roof top of the local culture center that moves slowly around its own axis. The 4 x 4 m symbol is made from LED and aluminium. According to the multi-cultural residents of this area the pattern is inspired from geometrical patterns in carpet design and architecture, especially from the Islamic world.
