Our friend Nosigner from Japan designed this delicate packaging for the Japanese ‘Udon noodles’ new branding campaign. ‘Udon noodle’ is a product composed of gourd powders. It is manufactured by Chamber of Commerce of Oyama in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Oyama is a major producing district of ‘Kanpyo’ – these are gourd strips, which are used for Japanese dishes such as Sushi roll. The producer needed a new brand which shows presence of both ‘Kanpyo’ and ‘Udon noodle’ brand for the future Kanpyo branding strategy.
Here is what Nosigner explains:
“For making the new brand, I focused on two tasks of design. One was to make the friendly design which would be remembered at one glance at store. The other one was to make the high class design which was able to compete with other traditional high class Udon brands. To solve these seemingly-contradict tasks, I made the new character of Kanpyo(gourd) with the touch of traditional Japanese calligraphy drawn on Japanese paper.”
“By elaborating the package design to make the product classy for representing the good quality of noodle itself, the package became the high-class brand design product beyond a usual character products.”
“Paper bag has silhouettes of Udon noodle when it was dehydrated. When the straps of the bag are hanged down, these straps disappear by mixing with the silhouettes.”
Recently Nosigner recieved this year’s Platinum Award for the food category of the PENTAWARDS. Congratulations!
