The Bottle-up Project is a series of products made of glass waste tourists leave behind on Zanzibar, a tropical island on the coast of East Africa. An initiative of Hubert and Elisabeth van Doorne and the Dutch Design Week organisation, the Bottle-up Project was exhibited at DDW 2015 and tells the story behind bottle-up, the development process, the products and the follow-up.
‘Eclipse mirror’ by Uli Budde
Known for their well-curated and undeniably insightful shows, the Czech creative collective Okolo strikes again, this time with an exhibition focusing on the ‘trend of creating mirrors in the context of contemporary experimental design’ which emerged in the recent years. On view at at the Superstudio Clam-Gallasův palác during the upcoming Designblok 2012, Prague Design and Fashion Week which opens on Monday (1 October), ‘The Mirror’ will present various forms of the mirror perceived by contemporary designers and artists such as, among many; Uli Budde, Oscar Diaz, Tomáš Král, OS ∆ OOS and Martin Žampach. ‘Syzygy: Eclipse’ table lamp by OS ∆ OOS
Taking their cue from ‘the sun and its surrounding celestial bodies’, a duo of young Dutch, Eindhoved-trained designers behind the enigmatically named OS ∆ OOS studio have created a three-piece series of lamps called ‘Syzygy.’ Owing its name to an astronomical name denoting ‘a straight line configuration of three celestial bodies in a gravitational system,’ the collection comprises two table and one wall light models, each of which demonstrates a particular aspect of the syzygy: transit, occultation and eclipse.
