'Tension Table' by Alain Gilles

The Belgian designer Alain Gilles realised this series of coffee tables for the newly opened Galerie Gosserez in Paris. It is made from a decent wire frame and a folded sheet metal top.

'130' chair by Naoto Fukasawa for Thonet

The German manufacturer Thonet presents these novelties at this year’s Salone del Mobile. Naoto Fukasawa’s new solid wooden chair is an addition to the ’1131′ table Thonet presented last year.

“First, I perceived these chairs as design classics. But then I realised that their main quality lies in their sustainability and environmental friendliness: there is no material wastage, and the chairs are very lightweight,” says Fukasawa. “They meet all the requirements for a perfect product. I deeply respect this and therefore I have tried to base my designs for Thonet on the same philosophy. I wanted to create something very simple, something uncomplicated for Thonet.”

At this year´s Salone del Mobile the Spanish manufacturer Stua presented ‘Eclipse’, a poetic, contemporary interpretation of the traditional nesting tables – tables that neatly store under one another when not in use.

The table shapes compliment each other, and they can be combined to make free flowing combinations which are personal and ever changing.

The edges of Eclipse are thin and gently rounded. The table legs are simply matt chrome steel rods, with felt protectors on the end. ‘Eclipse’ is available in six finishes: maple, beech, bleached oak, walnut, wenge and white.
