Axor Waterdream by Nendo (Oki Sato)
Designer Oki Sato of Nendo has created a Waterdream, a concept series of lamp-shaped shower heads that can be used just like a pendant lamp or floor lamp for Axor, the premium brand of international mixers and showers maker Hansgrohe. Each lampshade-shaped shower head incorporates an actual light source with water streaming from the edge of the shade/ shower head.
‘Deep-sea’ shelving by Nendo for Glas Italia
At next month’s Milan Design Week Japanese design studio Nendo will be showing ‘Deep-sea’, a furnishings collection composed of a low table and shelving unit for glass manufacturer Glas Italia.

‘Pebble’ stackable bowls by Oki Sato for Italesse
The smooth but imperfect shape of a pebble was the inspiration for ‘Pebble’, a series of three stackable bowls by Oki Sato, founder of Nendo studio, for Italesse.
‘Cape’ chair by Nendo for Offecct
The appearance of a cape neatly draped over a chair is the illusion of ‘Cape’, a chair by Japanese designer Nendo for Offecct. The product of carefully molded wood set on an extremely light structure, Cape is a complex chair with ultra-thin dimensions thanks in part to a collaboration between Offecct and Swedish Steel AB in the development of new steel materials.
‘Byobu’ table by Nendo for Moroso
Known for their minimalist, pared down aesthetics, Oki Sato’s much-acclaimed Tokyo-based practice Nendo has realised this collection of geometrical glass tables for the Italian manufacturer Moroso. Inspired, and named after the traditional Japanese screen, ‘Byobu’ comprises one circular and one rectangular model, each of which is composed of a translucent glass tabletop supported by an asymmetrical frame in either black or white finish. Famous for their out of the ordinary works, the acclaimed Japanese design and architectural practice Nendo have realised this collective birdhouse intended for use by birds and humans alike. Designed for Momofuku Ando Center – ‘a facility devoted to promoting and increasing access to nature activities’ – the unique structure formally echoes the archetypal gabled house and is composed of 78 enclosures provided for birds to nest in as well as an adjacent one-room observation area.
The making of ‘Inhale’ pendant lamp by Nendo for Lasvit
The ultra-prolific Japanese design practise Nendo has collaborated with a Czech manufacturer of bespoke light fittings and glass installations Lasvit on this delicate, organically-shaped pendant light called ‘Inhale’. Owing its name to the innovatory production process, in which the form is obtained by a negative air pressure, the design was exhibited as part of Nendo’s delicate, all-white ‘Still & Sparkling’ installation during this year’s edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile.
