‘Layered me’ mirror by mischer’traxler

Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler, who form Studio mischer‘traxler were inspired by the idea that faces and personalities are not flat but multilayered.

For ‘Layered me’ mirror, several sheets of mirrors are introduced into one object. Due to the distance and scale of the single mirroring layers the reflections become disfigured and form an assemblage of various images.

‘Layered -me’ consists of four two-way mirrors and one sandblasted or coloured sheet of glass placed in an oak base. Since the two-way mirrors always let some light through, the reflections are lighter and seem to fade out, where less layers are on top of each other.

On the occasion of Milan’s Salone del Mobile, the renowned, family-run textile brand Kvadrat has invited a number of internationally acclaimed designers who, under the guidance of seven curators, were commissioned to reinterpret one of Kvadrat’s most iconic upholstery fabrics, Hallingdal 65, in a modern concept. Among the 32 designers from across Europe, USA and Asia were some of today’s best and brightest talents in product and industrial design such as New Yorker Stephen Burks, Vienna-based Studio mischer’traxler or the Parisian designer Ionna Vautrin, to name just a few while Tord Boontje, Ilse Crawford, Søren Rose, Hans Maier-Aichen, Constance Rubini, Andre Fu and Jeffrey Bernett were appointed as curators. ‘Hallingdal 65′ exhibition was on view between 17 - 22 April on Milan’s Via Luca Beltrami and will now be presented during the ICFF fair in New York (18 – 22 May) in Jil Sander Showroom, 30 Howard Street. 'Rumkugelbahn' by mischer'traxler

We all remember their poetic installation ‘The idea of a tree’. During this year’s DMY Festival our friends from Vienna, the bright design couple mischer’traxler, presented their newest installation, a marble run “powered” by traditional Viennese rum truffles. Designed and build as Vienna Design Week Embassy the rattly and flimsy construction, fixed with thin wires and cardboard tubes forms the playful framework of the preseantation and the rolling little rum truffles show the way through the showcased objects and products from past editions of Vienna Design Week.
