Painted steel threads in various diameters form the base of ‘Orion’, a coffee table design by Jarrod Lim for Bonaldo. The overlapping rings give the coffee table an architectural look that is softened by the opaque glass of the table top.

New London-based design brand Made in Ratio will debut itself and an innovative furniture and lighting collection at Salone del Mobile 2013 in Milan. “Underpinned by the ideas of movement and modularity, the individual pieces will each have multiple applications.” says creative director Brodie Neill. The Cowrie Rocker (above) and Cowrie Chair, take their shape from a single piece of plywood curved to a monocoque form.

‘One Good Emperor’ by Ben Alun-Jones

Using 3D scanning and remixing tools, Royal College of Art graduate Ben Alun-Jones has scanned the busts of five Roman emperors from the British Museum in London. The goal, blend the scans to create different mixes of One Good Emperor. “This project questions the notions of value and uniqueness in a world where any object can be scanned, sampled and reproduced, simply by recording the object on video.” says Alun-Jones. “Many of these classical busts were also reproductions and so the idea of the original can often be distorted.”
