'Troag' light by Luca Nichetto for Foscarini

Italian designer Luca Nichetto has created a new pendant light for Foscarini, which will be launched during next week’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. The decidedly linear piece takes a formal cue from the traditional ‘troag’, a canoe-shaped wooden bowl used in Lapland, which the designer encountered on a visit to the region.

Available in varying lengths, the lamp is fabricated from a single piece of wood. Light is diffused both downwards and upwards, the latter thanks to a slit that runs long the top of the shade. Given its linearity, ‘Troag’ is particularly suited for illuminating long tables or large open spaces.

'Alle' chair by Luca Nichetto for Skitsch

Luca Nichetto’s new chair design for Italian manufacturer Skitsch will be launched at next month’s Milan Furniture Fair. Called ‘Alle’, it combines a tubular-steel structure with a curved plywood seat element, with a clever use of a colour gradation on the latter integrating the two.

There are two versions of the chair: one is four-legged, the other has a column base. Skitsch’s new London store on the Brompton Road, which opens at the end of March, will preview the piece before its official launch in Italy.

The Italian deigner Luca Nichetto realised this series of furniture made from bent corian sheets. It was designed for the Italian manufacturer Andreoli.

“Inspiration for this product was born by the idea to realize a product which just like a stripe develop itself and random draws a neverending element, without limits.Elements, not presenting a precise direction for disposition, put side by side creates a sort of wall where the play between full and empty melts with its wiggly flow generating a contrast with materic typical features of Corian.”

In Milan the Italian manufacturer Bonaldo presented this multi-purpose chair designed by the young and extremely active designer Luca Nichetto. ‘Cart’ is composed of a thick ergonomic polyurethane shell and a metal base and available in grey, white, red, anthracite and ivory.

“I wanted a product that got noticed, where design was based on functionality. Cart has a rather ‘50s design and very special shapes, especially when viewed from the back. It is also extremely functional: it can be stacked with a mechanism like that used for supermarket trolleys – the shopping carts from which this product takes its name”, says Luca Nichetto.

Gallotti & Radice was the first company in Italy to experiment with and promote, as far back as the Fifties, the love for the study and use of an extraordinary material in the furnishing sector: crystal. Used in all its purity and elegance, but especially combined in a unique and masterly way with other materials such as wood and metal, crystal stands out as a strong and discreet protagonist in the G&R collection.
