‘Palio’ chair by Konstantin Grcic for Plank
After his much-talked about ‘Avus’ armchair, which was launched by Plank during the 2011 edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile fair, the Munich-based designer Konstantin Grcic has recently created a comparatively less extravagant but perhaps more practical seat for the same manufacturer. Unveiled earlier in April, also at iSaloni, the geometrical, core leather upholstered ’Palio’ is available in natural or black while the chair’s simple, tubular legs are made of matt-black anodized aluminum. ‘FK01 Theban’ daybed by Ferdinand Kramer reissued by e15
The German furniture brand e15 has recently introduced a reedited version of this iconic woven daybed originally designed by the acclaimed architect and designer Ferdinand Kramer in 1925. Inspired by the cultural heritage of Ancient Egypt, ‘FK01 Theban’ comes in either solid oak or walnut while its hand-woven body is available in a textile or tanned leather version. The design is part of an eight-piece collection of Kramer’s designs which have been relaunched earlier this year by e15. (more…)

'Brev' storage unit by Emma Olbers for Asplund
A Stockholm-based furniture designer Emma Olbers has collaborated with the Swedish brand Asplund on this simple, pared-down wall-mounted locker. Called ‘Brev’, the unit is reminiscent of an enlarged, archetypal envelope and it is available in fine leather as well as lacquered metal finish in variety of bold colours such as anthracite, white, violet, olive, nougat, deep blue and orange. 'Strip Chair' by Massimo Castagna for Henge
The Italian architect and Henge’s art director Massimo Castagna has created this elegant, leather-and-metal chair called ‘Strip’. The cantilever tubular steel design, reminiscent of Marcel Breuer’s 1930 classic, the B34, was presented earlier this year at Milan’s Salone del Mobile and comprises a veneered-steel frame, a padded cushion, and a woven, lasercut leather backrest. 'Katakana' sofa by Dare Studio
Ahead of this year’s edition of London’s 100%Design fair, the Brighton-based contemporary brand Dare Studio has recently expanded its already-impressive collection of handmade, elegant and timeless furniture. The new designs, which will be presented at the show later in September, include a highly-expressive coat stand developed in solid wood, a multifunctional storage system whose colourful modules reminded us of Eames’ iconic 1949 ESU Bookcase, as well as this well-proportioned leather-and-wood ‘Katakana’ sofa. 'Fred' desk by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau
Roberto Lazzeroni, the Pisa-born designer has created this elegant and surprisingly light leather-and-wood desk for the Italian furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau. Called ‘Fred’, the design encompasses a distinctive, curved desktop made from a single piece of saddle leather which has been dyed and finished with protective wax. Developed in a special craft process, the desk is accompanied by the ‘Ginger’ chair with both of the designs inspired by Poltrona Frau’s leather craftsmanship. (more…)

'Marie Sophie' chair by Pierre Brichet, photo by Baptiste Heller
The French designer Pierre Brichet created this armchair for the Paris based Coming Soon galerie. ‘Marie Sophie’ is based on a sophisticated steel wire substructure which is covered with leather – an intresting detail is especially the delicate support of the backrest. The chair is available in a limited edition of eight pieces.
