The hand-chiselled surface of the ’Havet’ cabinet by Snickeriet

‘Havet’ – Swedish for ‘sea or waves’ is an intricately-detailed, hand-chiselled cabinet created by designers Karl-Johan Hjerling and Karin Wallenbeck for a Stockholm-based brand specialising in carpentry, Snickeriet. Developed in pine wood, each of the richly-textured cabinets is unique due to the traditional carving technique employed in its production process. (more…)

John Astbury, Bengt Brümmer and Karin Wallenbeck are students of the renowned “Konstfack” University College of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm. Their work plays with the idea of kinetic energy: the user’s interaction with the products transforms the objects’ shapes through an intriguing set of mechanical effects.
