Pedrali's new collection of chairs

To celebrate their new collection of vividly coloured chairs, the Italian manufacturer Pedrali has created this behind-the-scenes video capturing the proceedings from the promotional photo shoot during which no less than 88 chairs in a rainbow of hues were carefully arranged and, ultimately, photographed in a meticulously-calculated, multicoloured motif. The photographed models included Alessandro Busana’s ‘Laja’, Jorge Pensi’s ‘Ara’ and the stacking ‘Blitz’ by the Italian designers Marco Pocci and Claudio Dondoli. In Milan’s Zona Tortona, on Via Solari 35, the Italian design powerhouse Cappellini has presented an array of brand’s 2012 novelties, among them this pared-down table created by a Brussels-based designer Sylvain Willenz. Named ‘Candy Table’, the piece is part of Willenz’s Candy Collection, which explores and reinvents the steel reinforcement bars normally used as construction material for concrete structures. The steel tables are available in two various shapes and sizes (with a square or round tabletop) and in five different matt colours such as; blue, black, green, white and red. (more…)

'Stack' occasional table by Nathan Yong for Living Divani

Following the ‘Bolle’ coffee table he designed for Living Divani in 2009, the Singapore-based designer Nathan Yong continues his collaboration with the Italian manufacturer who will present Yong’s latest product, an occasional stackable table, during next month’s edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile. Aptly named ‘Stack’, the design is composed of set of three, differently-coloured natural wood tables which ‘ can be moved around and stacked according to one’s favourite configuration.’ (more…)

Translucent sheets of glass reflect the sky above this residential complex, which, together with adjoining commercial premises such as offices, hotels, restaurants and cinemas, forms a multifunctional development Milanofiori realised by a Genova-based practice Open Building Research (OBR). Comprising 107, park-overlooking apartments, the 2010-completed complex ‘seeks the symbiosis between architecture and landscape, so that the synthesis of artificial and natural elements could define the quality of living and the sense of belonging by the inhabitants.’ (more…)

'Still Life' cabinet by Sigrid Strömgren for ex.t

Young Swedish designer Sigrid Strömgren has recently collaborated with an Italian bathroom furniture manufacturer ex.t on a series of pared-down cabinets which, ‘create a Still Life of your everyday objects and collectibles.’ With a clear and simple Scandinavian feel, ‘Still Life’ cabinet is available in variety of colours and finishes such as; natural oak, lacquered mdf, varnished metal and the design can be used on its own or combined with another of Strömgren’s designs, ‘Collage‘ cabinet. 'Happy Pills' vases by Fabio Novembre for Venini

Italian designer Fabio Novembre imbued his latest collection of vases with happiness by attributing each of the five brightly-coloured pieces to a different chemical compound. Developed in collaboration with Murano glass specialists Venini, the ‘Happy Pills’ vases have been produced using the centuries-old Incalmo hand-blowing technique, originally invented more than 500 years ago by dexterous Venetian glassblowers who developed it to create objects consisting of two or more distinct parts in different colours. Likened by The New York Times to ‘the Lady Gaga of the design world: a constant font of ideas and energy who is nearly impossible to ignore’, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders has recently collaborated on yet another product for the Italian plastic furniture specialists, Magis. Presented in brand’s own showroom at Design Post during this year’s edition of imm cologne, ‘Cyborg‘ is now available in two different versions: entirely made of polycarbonate or with polycarbonate legs and seat and a contrasting wicker back. La Ronde: A New Path to the Castello di Rivoli by Hubmann Vass

Located less than 20 kilometers outside Turin, Castello di Rivoli is a home to an internationally renowned museum of contemporary art. Now, to create a closer link between the city and the castle, Erich Hubmann and Andreas Vass, the architects behind Vienna-based practice Hubmann Vass have redesigned the path to this monumental 18 century building designed by the Italian Baroque architect Filippo Juvarra.
