‘Doll’ table lamp by Ionna Vautrin for Foscarini
Continuing her collaboration with Italian lighting specialists Foscarini, the acclaimed Parisian-based designer Ionna Vautrin has once again turned her attention to the Far East and the Orient for inspiration. Her new, well-proportioned and organically shaped (as has become Vautrin’s signature) table lamp ‘Doll’ has just been unveiled by the Marcon-based brand and it appears to be a natural continuation of Vautrin’s previous, also Orient-inspired pendant light, ‘Chouchin’. Composed of a round, blown glass head and a circular plastic base, ‘Doll’ emanates a warm, soft glow and the lamp is available in four colour versions: ivory, green, grey and red. (more…)

‘Magique’ side table by Studio Klass for Liv’it by Fiam; photo by Pietro Cocco
Marco Maturo and Alessio Roscini, the Italian design duo behind Milan-based Studio Klass have collaborated with the curved glass furniture specialists Fiam on the design of this simple, geometrical side table. Called ‘Magique’, the cuboid, semi-transparent piece features multiple intersecting shelves and the design is made of 10 mm welded glass which is available in a variety of finishes such as transparent glass or smoked grey. ‘Byobu’ table by Nendo for Moroso
Known for their minimalist, pared down aesthetics, Oki Sato’s much-acclaimed Tokyo-based practice Nendo has realised this collection of geometrical glass tables for the Italian manufacturer Moroso. Inspired, and named after the traditional Japanese screen, ‘Byobu’ comprises one circular and one rectangular model, each of which is composed of a translucent glass tabletop supported by an asymmetrical frame in either black or white finish. ‘Tria’ chair by Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz for Colé
The young Italian furniture brand Colé has teamed up with two German-born Milan-based designers Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz, founders of Lorenz*Kaz studio, to create this three-legged, plywood chair called ‘Tria.’ Made of curved plywood and available in either natural oak, stained black oak finish or veneer, the form of the chair was inspired by the complexity of works of M. C. Escher which frequently featured impossible and infinite constructions and tessellations. (more…)

‘Drizzle’ shelving system by Luca Nichetto for Gallotti & Radice
Inspired by the long, vertical lines of the falling rain, the award-winning Venetian designer Luca Nichetto has developed ‘Drizzle’, an aptly-named shelving system for the Italian crystal specialists Gallotti & Radice. Unveiled earlier this year during Milan’s Salone del Mobile, the linear, grid-like bookshelf is composed of multiple metal elements that support and frame the shelves which are made of either transparent or frosted glass. Available in multiple colourways, ‘Drizzle’ can be arranged in a virtually infinite number of configurations. (more…)

‘Crossing’ table by Patricia Urquiola for Glas Italia
The acclaimed Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has recently collaborated with the Italian glass specialists Glas Italia on this vividly-coloured dining table design called ‘Crossing.’ Made of tempered transparent, extremely light glass, the asymmetric table is available in two sizes and in two different patterns. ‘Nuage’ lamp by Philippe Nigro for Foscarini
Five asymmetrical modules overlap creating a unique moiré effect in Philippe Nigro‘s Op art-inspired ‘Nuage’ lamp. Produced by the lighting specialists Foscarini, the modular lamp is made of polycarbonate and can be arranged and grouped in multiple combinations or used individually. ‘Nuage’ was unveiled at Foscarini’s Superstudio Piu exhibition in Milan during iSaloni 2012 fair. ‘Potence Pivotante’ by Charlotte Perriand reissued by Nemo
The Italian lighting brand Nemo has reintroduced this extremely reduced, wall-mounted lamp originally designed by the acclaimed Parisian designer Charlotte Perriand in 1938. Composed of two plain, matt black metal tubes and equally simple, frosted white glass diffuser, ‘Potence Pivotante’ has been presented at this year’s Salone del Mobile and is ‘the result of a meticulous rediscovery conducted in close collaboration with M.me Pernette Perriand-Barsac, the daughter and sole heir of Charlotte Perriand.’ (more…)
