Bright rays and contrasts of matter: A line of lamps that brings back to memories, feelings, art works. Handcraft manufacture, Italian taste, fine materials. These are the traits of Matt, the new collection of design lamps by In-es.artdesign.

‘Cruda’ task lamp by Alessandro Marelli

Alessandro Marelli’s ‘Cruda’ is a table lamp with a stone for a base, the only decorative element of the lamp that isn’t “‘designed’, but borrowed directly from nature” says the designer. “Users could potentially choose their own stone base and make the object truly unique.”

‘Funiculi’ floor lamp by Lluís Porqueras for Marset

Originally designed by the acclaimed Catalan designer Lluís Porqueras in 1979, this elegantly slender, glossy floor lamp has just been reissued by the Barcelona-based lighting specialists Marset. As its name suggests, the height of ‘Funiculi’ can be adjusted while the hemispheric shade can be rotated 360 degrees around its axis. Inspired by the funicular railways in Barcelona, the metal lamp is available in five colour options: white, black, red, beige and moss grey. ‘Kurk’ desk lamp by Craig Foster

Craig Foster, a young UK-based designer has recently realised this small, easy-to-assemble desk lamp called ‘Kurk’. Made of cork, the light was designed with sustainability with mind and it was awarded the second place at this year’s edition of the Lighting Association’s Student Lighting Design Awards. (more…)

‘Leaf’ lamp by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Muuto

The Stockholm-based design duo Broberg & Ridderstråle have collaborated with the Danish furniture brand Muuto on this collection of neat and simple lamps called ‘Leaf’. ‘Mino’ lamp by Ayala Serfaty for Aqua Creations

Known for her delicate light sculptures frequently exhibited in galleries across the globe, the Israeli designer Ayala Serfaty has created this series of beautifully sculptural, translucent lamps called ‘Mino.’ The lights feature a meticulously ruched silk drapery sculpted over a rectangular polycarbonate, vacuum-formed shell which is backlit with energy saving bulbs. Manufactured by Aqua Creations, a Tel Aviv-based design studio established by Serfaty and her husband in 1994, ‘Mino’ is available in three sizes with the largest one also doubling as a room divider. More often than not, office architecture can be, well, a little inward-looking. The OperAlp/SALEWA Group’s new headquarters in Bolzano, Italy, bring the outside in and, thanks to a collaboration with lighting manufacturer Zumtobel, never leave their workers in the dark.
