Biennale Interieur 2012, Kortrijk as seen by Architonic
Earlier last month (20 – 28 October) Interieur 2012 design biennial returned to Kortrijk, Belgium for its 23rd edition. With no less than 300 exhibitions from some of industry’s leading manufacturers as well as young, up-and-coming designers presenting contemporary design for the home as well as multiple interior innovations, there was plenty to see and be inspired by.
And should you have missed this fascinating event, fear not. Architonic team was there and here’s what they saw:

to the Biennale Interieur 2012, Kortrijk – Part II album

‘Skyline One’ spotlights by Lieven Musschoot and Mathias Hennebel for Dark
Strongly geometric and architectural in form, Belgian lighting manufacturer’s new ‘Skyline’ spotlights, designed by Lieven Musschoot and Mathias Hennebel, proved to be a highlight (no pun intended) of the recent Kortrijk-based design biennale Interieur. (more…)
Orcadesign's 'Sleeve Lamp Table', which marries two traditionally discrete object types – the table and the lamp
Singapore-based multi-disciplinary design consultancy Orcadesign showed their ‘Sleeve Lamp Table’ recently at the Interieur 2010 design biennale in Kortrijk, Belgium. The continuation of the table surface up into a curved form that houses a delicate light source is both sculptural and interesting on the level of design typology – here, two object types (table and lamp) become conflated. 'Twist' lamp by Alain Berteau for Belgian lighting brand Aluci
Belgian architect/designer Alain Berteau is a hard taskmaster. ‘When you switch it off, you’re not looking at a dead machine,’ Berteau said of his new ‘Twist’ LED lamp for Belgian lighting manufacturer Aluci, while in conversation with Architonic at the recent Interieur 2010 design biennale in Kortrijk. The piece’s highly reduced, architectural form ensures that it continues to work as an intriguing space-defining presence beyond its utilitarian function as a light source.

'MoonLounger' by Wildspirit
The Belgian manufacturer Wildspirit recently unveiled ‘Moonlounger’, designed by Gerd Couckhuyt – an upholstered low chair, which is reminiscent somewhat of some kind of avant-garde design from the 1950s. A particularly beautiful detail is the elaborate bending of the rear wooden legs. This replaces the stabilising, cross-connecting element that you would usually expect at seat level.
‘MoonLounger’ will be showcased at this year’s Interieur in Kortrijk from October 15th till 24th, Expo-hallen Kortrijk (B). Hall 4, Booth 450.
