‘Cargo’ floor lamp by Hervé Langlais for designheure

Inspired by the characteristic form of funnel liners, ‘Cargo’ is the latest collection of lamps designed by the French architect and designer Hervé Langlais for lighting brand designheure. Encompassing a floor/table version as well as pendant model available in various sizes, the monochrome collection was launched during this year’s edition of the Maison & Objet fair in Paris. (more…)

Hyde version of the ‘Float’ table by Luca Nichetto for La Chance; photo by Stanislas Wolff

Bold, inverted conical sphere seems to balance on its apex in Luca Nichetto‘s latest table design for the recently-launched French furniture brand La Chance. Aptly named ‘Float’, the seemingly simple, uncomplicated form of the table has been achieved thanks to the complex metal leaf turnery technology which is normally employed in aircraft production. Featuring a reflective, mirrored base, ‘Float’ is available in two colour versions: high-gloss Lamborghini yellow or sombre matte grey aluminium finish. The design was unveiled, along with La Chance’s debut ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ collection, during this year’s Salone del Mobile at MOST. (more…)

New York-based architectural practice led by the Swiss-born Bernard Tschumi have completed this circular, wood-clad interpretative center which commemorates the history of the battle between Julius Cesar and the Gauls in 52 B.C. Located in Alise-Sainte-Reine, Burgudy, the striking development encompasses two separate but related structures: a museum and a visitors centre. (more…)

Award-winning designer and interior architect Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance has realised this quietly understated, well-proportioned chair for the recently-established French furniture brand called Marcel By. Unveiled earlier this year, ‘Bamby’ chair features a reduced, curved seat shell whose delicate form is juxtaposed with the angular, dynamic base developed in unstained solid wood. (more…)

‘Tresse’ – French for ‘plait’, is a collection of bold, graphic patterned carpets recently created by Paris-based designer Samuel Accoceberry for a French contemporary rug specialists Chevalier édition. 'Watching the ships roll in' seat by Marie Dessuant for Singularité

As part of a new collection by a recently-launched contemporary French furniture label Singularité, the young Parisian designer Marie Dessuant has realised this neat seat and stool called – rather curiously – ‘Watching the ships roll in’. Composed of a simple beech wood structure and thin, cotton canvas mattress and cushions, the design is, in Dessuant’s words: ‘a contemporary and domestic interpretation of the deck chair’. ’Watching the ships roll in’ is one of five new, limited-edition products created by Dessuant for Singularité’s ‘The Bay’ collection. Ionna Vautrin's sketch for 'Musette'

Known for her penchant for subtle, pared-down and frequently round or soft-cornered forms, French designer Ionna Vautrin has created this simple multifunctional table-cum-storage-cum-tray for the Danish manufacturer De Vorm. Presented earlier in April at De Vorm’s exhibition in Zona Tortona’s Via Novi 5, ‘Musette’ has been inspired by ‘the oriental tables which are used during the tea ceremony’. (more…)
